Time Travel to New France: Experience This Unique Event in Québec City

From the moment we arrive in the historical district of Old Québec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we feel as if we have travelled through time. Québec City is a treasure trove of historical gems and captivating attractions.  

Stroll along cobblestone streets lined with historical buildings whispering tales of the city's rich past. Soak up iconic landmarks like the Château Frontenac and discover the city's heritage in historic sites. 

The Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France takes place within Old Québec, centered around City Hall at Les Jardins and Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville. There, we can wander through a recreated village where costumed interpreters bring history to life. It’s where we engage in interactive performances and workshops, visit the Capture your History exhibition, play ancient games, and discover fascinating stories that shaped the continent during this pivotal period of North American history. The Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France embraces contemporary forms of expression to share and teach about the history of our ancestors. You’ll also find other historical sites to discover throughout Old Québec City.

Tap your toes to the rhythm of traditional music and dance performances. Savour local eats and drinks and try period cuisine. The festival's welcoming atmosphere is an opportunity to connect with the past, celebrate the present and create memories that will last a lifetime. It’s the most immersive way to delve into ancestral French Canadian culture.

The festival promises to be exciting this year, with can't-miss moments like these:

• Public Market Viandex / Le Frigo: A space the whole family can enjoy, featuring musical performances,  Capture your History exhibition, historical reenactments, local artisans, and old-fashioned games — including the Méga Parc’s Hunt and Seek activity for children.
• Ancestors’ Place: Traditional performances, songs, myths and legends, and the ancestral knowledge of First Nations peoples.
• Giants’ Gathering - The Show: Watch 11 giants come to life before your eyes as they share their stories and reveal how they're connected (Admission: $ or free with the Medallion Case - no booking required).
• King’s Dinner presented by TD: Dine like one of His Majesty’s subjects with a festive New France–style meal. (Admission: $ – booking required.)
• Night of the Traitors: Dive into the intrigue and excitement of this interactive game inspired by the famous Werewolves. Can you unmask the traitors hiding among you? (Admission: $ – booking required.)
• Escape Backpack: Pick up your backpack at the Îlot des Palais and set off on a quest for clues and historical facts that will lead you to key sites and artifacts from the New France era. (Admission: $  - no booking required.)
• Historical Talks – Gouvernement du Québec: Deepen your understanding of New France through a series of engaging presentations. (Free with the Medallion Case – no booking required.)

• Plan your visit: Check the festival's official website  for the latest schedule and plan your itinerary according to the agenda. 

• There is no dress code: Dressing up in 17^th- and 18^th-century costumes is entirely optional — but if you want to, feel free to join in the fun!

• Learn a few French words: While most people there speak English, knowing a few key French phrases will go a long way in enhancing your interactions with the locals.
